"Superhero"
Brian McKnight still works his patented
platinum midtempo grooves on his sixth album, but here he turns
the beat around a bit and mixes it up with some new partners.
For strange bedfellows, check out "My Kind of Girl,"
a collaboration with Justin Timberlake. The teaming of the Prince
of Pimple Pop and the veteran R&B star is a head-scratcher
on paper, but it sure sounds sweet as they wrap their voices
around a gentle acoustic-tinged track that floats with effortless
ease. McKnight, who handles most production, writing, and instrumental
chores, rocks out on the title track and throws down with Nate
Dogg on the pulsating "Don't Know Where to Start."
It all proves that McKnight can create make-out music for housewives
and homeboys alike. --Amy Linden |

Without a doubt 'Superhero' is one of the best R&B albums
of this year, and one of Mcknight's best albums. Brian really
makes up for what was lacking in "Back at One" and
leaves the listener with a great cd to relax to. I would recommend
this CD to those college students and professionals who need
soothing music to study/work to. I also reccomend this to couples
in love and are looking for the song to show exactly what they
mean, "Love of My Life," and "Still" (best
song in my opinion.) But if you are looking for some faster paced
music in the likes of Jagged Edge there are a few here also,
with guests like the St. Lunatics, and Nate Dogg this is a cd
of various types of R&B. If you have been a Mcknight fan
for awhile and was a little dissapointed in "Back at One"
then you will be very pleased with "Superhero." The
album I kept thinking about while I listened to this was "II"
by Boyz II Men, cause I feel that this album is in the same vain
as that one was, but that's for you to decide. |
