Biography

Harry Connick Jr.

Born September 11, 1967, in New Orleans, LA.

A child piano prodigy who grew up in a house and a city infused with the jazz tradition, he has made a career mimicking the voice, swagger, and good looks of a young Sinatra--with the musical skills of the jazz masters. The result is an anachronistic sound that's often beguiling for someone his age. After studying music intently through his teens, Connick Jr. left the Crescent City for New York to follow in the footsteps of his friend Wynton Marsalis and sign a recording contract. Recording for Columbia, his second adult album, 20, marking his age, brought his brand of throwback jazz to the attention of critics, but it wasn't until two years later, with the soundtrack to the immensely popular film When Harry Met Sally, that Connick became a sensation and an early pioneer in the mid-'90s lounge-music resurgence. With undeniable charisma, Connick soon began a successful detour into acting, most memorably as a cocky pilot fighting the alien masses alongside Will Smith in the blockbuster Independence Day. With his mind occupied by the silver screen, his albums in the '90s have been uneven and somewhat tiresome. To See You, a collection of newly penned romantic songs, finds Connick Jr. showcasing a surprising new maturity in his arrangements and songwriting.
