Ann Margret
"Best Little Whorehouse
in Texas"
Reviewer: A music fan from Best Litte College
City in Texas
This recording reminds me of being
at the play live. I saw it in Houston (great atmosphere here
in TX) and the audience loved it. I didn't expect the CD to be
as good, but I decided to buy it because I've never seen a cast
that's recorded a cast recording. To my surprise, this CD is
wonderful. I can't compare with the OBC, but it definately holds
its own next to the Movie soundtrack. Ann Margret obviously doesn't
sing like Dolly Parton (in the role of Mona Stangley), but she's
older and brings a motherly, husky interpretation to the character.
The "hired hand band" is wonderful and plays much better
than the OBC clips I've heard. The rest of the cast and the ensemble
are all great. For some of them, it is their first time in a
professional show, and they want to shine. "Hard Candy Christmas"
is split up amongst the girls (instead of just Mona like in the
movie) and all the girls sing their hearts out. To end it up,
the cast and band end in a wonderfully infections Finale. Carol
Hall, the composer, sings "A Friend to Me" at the end
of the disc as a bonus. Get this CD: you won't be disappointed. |
