"Greatest
Hits Vol. 1-2"
It's one of the cruel ironies
of music today that Billy Joel has been relegated to a kind of
adult-contemporary hell, where his legacy is measured by soft-rock
staples such as "Just the Way You Are," "Piano
Man," and "New York State of Mind." To be sure,
well-crafted ballads are a part of Billy Joel's legacy, but they're
hardly the whole story, as this collection of his early and mid-period
hits amply demonstrates. From the unbridled biographical boasting
of "The Entertainer" and the ambitious storytelling
of "Scenes from an Italian Restaurant" to the careening
abandon of "Only the Good Die Young" and the thoughtful
social commentary of "Allentown," Joel was as complete
an artist as the last three decades have produced. --Daniel Durchholz |

I finally decided to review an older cd I have. This cd is awesome.
The Piano Man, has delivered a hits album for the ages. Some
of the best songs are on this. My favorites are Piano Man, Captain
Jack, Uptown Girl, and my personal favorite song, Goodnight Saigon.
From the sad ballads to the uptempo dance songs, this album is
Joel's best. I reccomend anyone of you who read this should buy
this because it is an awesome cd, even if you hate Joel, you'll
love this. This is a greatest hits album for the ages, actually
from 1978-1985, in which all the songs are from that time. That
time is Joel's best. It is when he recorded his most memorable
songs. I have two copies of this album, one on tape and one on
cd. If you want a greatest hits album from absolutely anyone
ad you're not so sure which to get, buy this one because it is
the best. The absolute best. So take my word for it and buy this
album today! |
