fter I have provided the free of charge history
of your ancestor emigrant, you may decide to entrust the continued research of
your family tree to me. We shall then have to agree upon the scope of the research
and the fee. The following prices should be seen as a basis for that
discussion. Normally there will be no
other charges than those listed below. We should also come to an agreement on
how the payment should be done.
1. Emigrant’s Family Tree
1.1 Your ancestor emigrant’s history, and names
and birth dates only of parents and siblings, and of spouse (if any) (FREE OF CHARGE). If you want a go further back in
time, you can choose between the following two options.
1.2.1 You could have a research done according
to your specific requirements. For this I charge USD 60.00 for each ascendant married
couple found in the following generations. All surplus information found about
other ancestors during this research will be included without cost.
1.2.2 Or you could choose my advantageous
package! It includes the histories of the seven married couples of the first
three generations back in time of your ancestor’s family. This research will
cost you USD 350.00. Again, all surplus information found about other
ancestors during this research will be included without cost.
These
generations consist of your emigrant ancestor’s two parents (1st
generation), four grandparents (2nd gen.), eight great grandparents
(3rd gen.). For these direct ascendants in the 1st
through 3rd generations I charge USD 50.00 for each married couple
found. If I can’t find them all, I shall reduce my fee accordingly.
2. The Family Tree of Emigrant’s Spouse
2.1 If your emigrant ancestor was married in
Sweden, the same charge structure will apply for the family tree of the spouse.

lease note: Unfortunately, it is
rather unlikely that the researcher could find all seven (or fourteen if the
spouse’s ancestors are included) married couples of the first three
generations. Children out of wedlock, or church records destroyed by fire, are
just two examples of problems we meet when researching family history.
With
“history” I mean all the facts I can find for each person in the church
records. The most important ones are: Birth Records, Marriage Records, Movement
Records, Death Records and the records of the “Parish Catechetical Meetings (or
perhaps more understandable, the Vicar’s regular visits)”, in which the members
of each household were entered about every fifth year or so. I always include
the references to my sources so that they can easily be found again if need be.
With
surplus information I mean all the other pieces of information concerning the
family which I find during my research. Typical examples are names and birth dates
of the next generation of family ancestors or interesting notes by the vicar
after his household visits.
1. Emigrant’s Generation
Your ancestor emigrant’s history, and names and
birth dates of parents and siblings, and of spouse (if any) (FREE OF CHARGE).
2. Consecutive generations
Curiously enough, it is often more
complicated to research the history of one of our emigrant’s sibling’s descendants
up till today. Therefore each such research will have to be negotiated
according to your requirements. Generally speaking, the basis for the fee
discussion would be USD 60.00 for that family member of each generation,
that brings us forward to the next generation, until we find a living family
member.
My
standard method of research nowadays is to work at home with research through
the internet. Today almost all church records, and some others, could be
accessed that way, if you have the proper subscriptions. In some commissions,
where I want to expand my research to, for instance, the old Swedish army, I
use microfiches, which I order from the
Swedish National Archives, and which are mailed to me. It usually takes one
week for each batch to reach me. This type of research is consequently relatively
time consuming.
A
quicker way of doing some specific commissions would be for me to travel to the
nearest archive, which holds the specific microfiches or the actual original
documents I need. There I can of course work much more efficiently. This I am
prepared to do if you so wish, provided you cover the extra costs for travel,
food and accommodation plus a flat rate of USD 100.00 per day.
The
same travelling expenses may also apply in the case of reconnoitring and
preparing your visit to your emigrant’s ancestors locations as well as
preparing visits to your relatives. Again, these activities will be undertaken
only after discussions with you.
Firstly, I would like to stress that
I don’t expect any pay until you have seen and accepted at least part of my
research. After that, there are primarily two ways in which you could pay me.
The one I prefer is an electronic transfer to my Swedish bank account. In this
case there will be no extra charge for bank fees.
Second
best is that you mail me a cashier’s check guaranteed by your bank (please
note, not your normal personal check). If you use this method of payment, I am
afraid I must charge an extra sum of USD 25.00 to cover my bank’s fee.
Before
I accept to undertake a research, all these details of payment should be agreed
upon.
My name is Lars Gustaf Andersson and
I am a retired Swedish Army Lieutenant Colonel. I live on the West Coast of
Sweden in a small fishing community. The life here is calm and peaceful (except
when the westerly gales roar!) and especially during the winter very suitable
for genealogical research, which today is perhaps my most absorbing interest in
my spare time.
